Antique English Table Top Sterling Silver Arts & Crafts Cigar & Cigarette Lighter
What an impressive and elegant sterling silver English antique table top cigar and cigarette lighter from the Arts and Crafts period. It is made by Albert Edward Jones, dates from 1924, and consists of a hand hammered circular rounded body on a hand hammered circular spreading foot. Wrapping around the entire circumference of the lighter is the quote from Charles Kingsley's Book Westward Ho (1855), "THERE IS NO HERB LIKE IT UNDER THE CANOPY OF HEAVEN." The lighter carries a complete set of English hallmarks on its foot, and partial hallmarks on the wick top. There is a dent to the left of the handle, and two indentations on the top which are well camouflaged amongst the hammered surface. Given its age and rarity, it is in extremely fine antique condition.
